Job Description

The individual must know the fundamentals and be capable of understanding the design details of high speed transceivers, analog and digital circuits, and active or passive optical components. An excellent working knowledge of communication measurement equipment and measurement techniques is required. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

The Senior NPI Engineer is responsible for the success of new product introduction spanning all aspects of product design with emphasis on the assembly process, test software development, and overall manufacturing methodologies. The position works within multiple teams but is ultimately responsible for producing intelligent and efficient test systems and processes that are compatible within the global manufacturing infrastructure.

While the focus will be on specific development projects, the scope of the position includes broad oversight of best practices & standards over a wide spectrum of product families in both US and China facilities.

Specific tasks may include:

•analyzing mechanical, electrical, optical designs
•creating test strategies and automatic test software
•researching & developing new test methods
•data analysis and statistical analysis
•hardware and software troubleshooting
•failure analysis
•writing reports
•involvement with critical customer issues

A Masters or PhD in electrical engineering or related field is desired along with demonstrated enthusiasm and skill for hands-on development work in optical components. This individual will be required to work with cross-functional teams both in the US and China and to efficiently manage the execution of complex projects. Travel to China is a requirement.

Summary

The RD engineer chosen for this position will be a key member of SourcePhotonics’ OE RD team. This team is responsible for the development of advanced photonics devices, including: high speed DFB, FP, PD, APD, as well as EML chips and TOs that will used in Source Photonics’ fiber optical transceivers. This individual will interact directly with other Source Photonics teams including: Optics Sub-assembly R&D, transceivers R&D, and other production engineering and quality teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Modeling, design and testing of high speed optoelectronics devices.
•Working with production team to establish device manufacturing process that can support industrial scale production with high yield and reliability.
•Provide general engineering support for a variety of off-the-shelf and custom engineering projects
•Able to make individual contributions while staying focused on the goals of the team.
•Thrives in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented atmosphere
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Ph.D in Optoelectronics, Physics, EE or M.S with at least 7 years relevant experience.
•High speed photonics device testing experience.
•Semiconductor device processing, testing experience.
•Must possess strong analytical skills
•This individual would be required to work with teams in the US, China, and Taiwan and efficiently manage the execution of complicated projects.
•Do whatever it takes attitude.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•EML design, processing, testing experience
•MOCVD growth experience.
•Strong working knowledge of high volume manufacturing methods.

Job Description

This position reports to the Sr. Director of Global Product Management. It is a high level
opportunity to be part of a dynamic and focused group of motivated individuals. The environment
is highly collaborative and centered on team work. The Product Management team is highly technical and central to all business decisions setting direction and impacting the success of the company. The Application Engineer will function with autonomy while operating collaboratively within the Product Line Management and Product Management groups. In addition, the AE will provide support for our Sales Team and become a key contact interfacing as a technical liaison with our largest customers.

In this role, the AE is required to:

•Communicate complex technical information to customers
•Collect and disseminate customer information back to the internal organization
•Organization customer requirements and assist in synthesizing these to product development goals and roadmaps

As a key member of the Product Management Group, the AE must be able to:

•Analyze data
•Understand our production processes, and set specifications for proper yield and manufacturability
•Demonstrate the ability to keep others appropriately informed
•Possess the judgment to know when to seek additional information and assistance from the group
•Have the willingness to participate as a team member within the group

Responsibilities will include:

•Managing products through entire lifecycle from market assessment and product requirements definition to release
•Participating in high level technical and commercial customer engagements
•Setting production priorities when required
•Developing marketing material and sales presentations

Qualifications include:
•Relevant technical background (MS or PhD) with industry design/R&D experience
•Excellent communication skills
•Mandarin language a plus
•Travel to China 15-25% of the time
